Skoro już jesteśmy przy singlach i ktoś wspomniał Anię Gacek...

NME review

"What’s in a band name? On the surface, a perfectly serviceable rock monicker, combining filth and finery, grit and gorgeousness in The Stone Roses vein. But also the name of a film in which one of the central narrative twists involves a human heart being found in a toilet. How about that for added significance? Is it Carl Barat’s heart that has been in the toilet? And if it is, who is it who has been merrily pissing on it, as his every action takes the piss?

One thing’s for certain: Carl has certainly planned his comeback to perfection. With a Libertines biography at the top of the bestseller list and the Doherty tabloid clap-him-in-irons shriekfest showing no signs of abating, ever, there’s something tremendously fuck-you in coming out with so vicious a title, open to so much interpretation (is it Peter upon whom he’s training his sights? How we will dig deep to confirm it!). But the real fucking-of-you comes from the fact that this is better than anything The Libertines ever did, and a country mile better than anything Babyshambles have mustered - a simple, terrific, spiky guitar insta-classic, a shade over 200 seconds of pure troubadour swagger. Once you’re done bouncing up and down with it - it may take a while - there’s the small matter of lyrics like “I gave you your Midas touch / You turn round and scratch out my heart” and a chorus of “Bang bang, you’re dead / Always so easily led” to digest and disseminate.

Shouldn’t be too hard. The war of Albion, it seems, has been won."

Peter Cashmore

Rebel rebel Very Happy

OK, koniec słodzenia. Teraz beczka dziegciu. Z cyklu "ja wiedziałam, że tak będzie".

Der Spiegel napisał:

In the Shadow of the Junkie

from Andreas Hartmann

though if you’re known as a bore: While ex libertines guitarist Peter Doherty became a rock icon due to his drug addiction, ex-bandmate Carl Barât fights for approval. This weekend he had a show in Berlin with his band Dirty Pretty Things.

It’s late afternoon. The concert won’t start till couple of hours later, which is why the three girls that are hanging around the venue came to the Berliner Postbahnhof. Dirty Pretty Things will play, Franziska, Ined & Josephines current favourite band.
There’s no album up to now but already the three of them are devoted fans. their passion goes so far that they’ve already been to cologne to see the band and then just decided ju travel with them to their second and last gig on their very short german tour. Ines is still wearing the same jeans from the cologne concert, torn and full of black spots from standing inthe first row and being pressed against the stage all the time.

The Libertines: unequal brothers

the girls didn’t have it easy for a long time and now it’s all still very complicate. originally, they’re fans of the libertines, who started an unexpected wave of devotion for unchained and typical british punkrock in europe even before franz ferdinand and the arctic monkeys. but as explosive as the libertines’ success was, as short was their life span. in two years they produced two records and that was it. the band didn’t just spli, they dismantled themselves and showes a self destructive dynamic that no other british band had shown since the sex pistols.

the end of the libertines was the start of a soap opera which didn’t seem to have an end. a rock drama about broken friendships, betrayel, jealousy, self-abandonment and a beautiful woman.
There’s no need at the moment to ask the question whether there’s a happy end in sight, if the once friends will reconcile - like F, I & J are hoping. After all, the dirty pretty things are the legitimate successor of the libertines, but if the general public will see it that way is questionable. because they are way too occupied with the other libertines successor, with the babyshambles ( this is a fucking annoying things german reports always do. the babyshambles. argh ), ex libertines guitarist pete doherty’s band.

Doherty-Mania

he was known as a fallen angel, as the ‘bad boy of tock’n’roll’, shortly before disembarkation of the libertines. he took crack, coke and heroin, every hard drug he could get. soon you couldn’t count on him to show up for planed gigs. at the end of the tour 2004 carl barât, singer of the libertines, pulled the emergency brake and exchanged his former friend with a session guitarist. Doherty was seen as a hoepless junkie, and more than a few people foretold his immediate and complete failure.

but everything happened differently. doherty managed to release a celebrated record despite all the british tabloids and their celebration of his drug stories and managed to hook up with kate moss, the more glamorous girl of the world. since then doherty-mania is not limited to england anymore. the wild rebell is burning out in front of the spellbound eyes of tabloids and music magazines and acts out his young life so that he doesn’t have to grow old first to die. (WTF??) after the picture of kate moss taking crack while doherty watches on he’s taken the role of the beast next to the beauty. if you go by the golden rules of rock’n’roll, doherty’s done everything correctly.

meanwhile his former bandmate carl barât is known as a bore, as someone, who will fulfill his contracts with record companies and put them over the friendship with his unoriented guitarist. both of them could have crash and burned together only to - one day - rise again. but where was barât when the younger of the two really needed the level-headed one? busy fulfilling his duties. if you go by the golden rules of rock’n’roll, barât’s done pretty much everything wrong. .

tired and used

he’s gonna have it difficult with his band. it’s not just that their album - which will be released at the end of may - is nothing but a stale extraction of the libertines-formula for snotty punkrock and loses in the direct comparison to the babyshambles debut album.
no, it’s mostly the question of credibility - the true value of rockmusic - where barât won’t be able to keep up with his former friend. babyshambles came out of nowhere. noone was expecting anything after all of doherty’s excesses. they seemed to come from the true desire to once again put everything on the line and just storm on.
barât retreated after the end of the libertines, contemplating life outside london and now he’s back with dirty pretty things, a frail retort band. the overhanging shadow of pop icon doherty hangs over him like a dark cloud.

in the interview barât seems used, tired and absent-minded. he’s constantely fidgeting with his troused and whenever we mention doherty he starts mumbling something we can’t understand. his lable’s put didz hammon next to him, as a prompter for all the doherty related questions. which seems especially absurd when it’s a question about barât’s feelings about his combatant

the problems of which one would have thought doherty would have them seem to fit barât now:
he’s not ready for a new start, can’t take the pressure. and at the end, the berlin concert doesn’t unfold any magic. the band seems to come from an outer pressure instead on an inner drive. the gig seems to be an acquittal, as if barat has to - once more - do what he has to do. the band is erratic, not in touch and doesn’t show any energy. the new songs seem floppy and the few libertines songs they play seem to lack the Storm and Stress of the real libertines.

F, I & J don’t mind. they hope that soon enough they can give their heart to one single band. the real band. nothing describes their current mood better than the libertines song with the - very fitting - title “the good old days” from which they take their hope that they can believe in love and music just as long as their idols do.

If carl barât knows, which tremendous responsibilities he has towards the fans?

Jestem przygotowana na większy wysyp tego typu opinii, zresztą skądś już to znamy...

Ach, beznadziejny ten Carl, ale jeszcze ma czas do czerwca, żeby się zabić.
